Elwood: Hey, me and Jake, we're putting the 3XV back together. We need you and Blue Lou and a couple of decent props.
Raven: Oh man. Don't talk that way round here. My old lady, she'll kill me.
Elwood: You gotta understand that the 3XV is a lot bigger than any domestic problems you might be experiencing.
Aretha: What the hell is he talking about?
Jake: Ma'am, would it make you feel any better if you knew that playing for the 3XV was a holy thing? You see, we're on a mission from God.
Aretha: Don't you blaspheme in here! Now this is my man and you are gonna just walk right out that door, without ya dry white toast, without ya four fried chickens and without Matt guitar Murphy.
Raven: Now you listen to me. I love you, but I'm the man and your the woman. And I'll make the decisions concerning my life.
Aretha: You better think about what you're saying. You better think about the consequences of your 3XV actions.
Raven: Oh shut up woman I going down the club!
Ladies and gentlemen, it is the distinct pleasure of the management to present to you, N&B’s star attraction…. They are back after their recent tour of Europe, Scandinavia and the sub continent N&B 3XV rugby has returned to Nailsea Park. 20 Merit Table plus several friendly fixtures.

Chaps the babies are a year older now and I must be mad but I want to be 3XV captain again. I have done it for 2-3 seasons in the past so I know the commitment involved. ‘write the theme tune sing the theme tune and all that’ Last season was ok but I just need more rugby……….
I think it is vital the 3XV plays every week to keep the colts coming through and give the old heads an opportunity to give something back to the club. Aged 34, I will also endeavour to train at least once a week so I can keep a hand in.
If any body else is interested or wants to help me then please give me a call. I don’t want to tred on anybodies toes. I would go to the AGM but they bore me shitless can someone nominate me or do what needs to be done for Thursday.
See you all at pre-season happy days!

As we get closer to retirement good advise like this will be important (those already retired take note)..............
ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND:
It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.
My name is Jim. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife,Terri. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Terri to get a full-time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work.
Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club so eating out is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door. She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.
Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think? For example she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points. When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the yard.
I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too. I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Terri. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.
Signed,
Jim
EDITOR'S NOTE:
Jim died suddenly on February 7 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife Terri was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defence that Jim, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

Congratulations to all the award winners

Training starts next thursday, it will be a chilled out affair with kissball, touch, running or a CV session depends on what you guys want. Starting at 7pm on the 2nd team pitch until Mark offically starts with his beat up.
Please try to come down as the more that appear the better it will be plus i'm lonely and sad and I need the friends, I might even buy you a drink if you attend a few with me!
Also I'm looking at starting a Players Power Entertainment commitee for next season. The more that offer to help the easier it will be and we can finally start to raise funds for next years tour. I'm hoping at planning a number of events during the year but i obvoiusly can't do everything myself. So if your miffed at why things haven't happened then don't ask the question come help me sort it out!
If your not going to Fridays dinner then give me a call as i really don't want to be press ganging or forcing people to help or we will end up with yet another season with jack diddly organised! |

Right the amazing merry go round for my last 2 league games continues. I now have to play both games on Saturday so I will field a mixture of 2 teams of varying levels so that we can complete our league program.
I would really appricate every player's help and support as I still feel both games are winable and I intend to compete as such.
We in the 2nd's have had a very good season so far and I'd love for us to finish on a high with both teams winning, come on the Gladaiators! We are meeting at 13.30 where I will pick the 2 sides and nominate a Captain. |

Men of the match were Paul Davies and Greg Appleby. My thanks also go to the 2 captains Ian Ogborne and Richard Palmer and the officials and 2 team managers. A special thanks to Jeff and John for all their help. If I have left anybody out I apologise.
The game was played with great spirit and passion and was enjoyed by the large crowd watching.

Looked on internet today, yes OAPs can do it, ref beer festival. Price of an advance return is £17.50 and departure from N & B station is 12.29, unfortunately there are no trains between there and Taunton, they are laying on a bus to meet the connection in Taunton. Not very appealing to me as the return from NA is 20.25 getting back to Nailsea at 23.35, and that is not counting any traffic delays. What do you think?? |

Big Thanks to the 16 Colts players (including 1 who got kidnapped from behind the bar) who turned out against Bristol Colts on Sunday. Bristol, having lost only once and that by a couple of points to Bath, were back at full strength with a squad of 19 including their Uni players back and it showed in their powerful strong running performance. Having said that on a hot afternoon and a really hard pitch our players never took a backward step and tackled to the end so much so that we ended up with 13 men for the last 5 minutes due to injuries.
Some outstanding individual performances and skill but the real strength was in an excellent team performance in which everyone gave their all.

President.
Ref: Presidents Club Day 11th April.
Having watched Backwell/ N & B. 30 or more years, I decided to thank certain present players within the club who I feel have given 80 minutes commitment on the pitch and have a commitment to the club, a special game.
Alot of the players picked are not the super stars of the club but always play to the best of their ability.
When the 22 man squad is put on the board you will see that the age range is from 17 to 45ish!!.
The game will be played every two years and a cup will be awarded to the winning side.
It is a serious game and I hope it will be watched by a lot of our old players who will be at the club for a lunch, we also hope that many supporters will come down and support the teams.
Our chairman Jeff accepted my challange and he has picked mostly the up and coming players of the club, who will be part of our future.
I am saddened that I have to explain my action to a person who hasn't got the guts to put his name to his message. (I wonder if you are even a member of the club).
I am hoping that both teams will play with commitment and gamesmanship, but mostly will enjoy the game and the day.
(Commitment and Pride are all !!!)

The u12`s took an honourable 3rd place in the Nationally Organised Land Rover Premiership Cup. The competion organised by the Guiness Premiership / Land Rover and the area finals being hosted by Bath RFC.
The 16 teams involved were -
Chippenham ( Winners ), Devizes, ( Runners Up ), Warminster, Nailsea & Backwell ( = 3rd ),
Wootton Bassett, Taunton, Bath, Frome, Corsham,
Midsomer Norton, Walcot, Castle Cary, Avon, Bradford on Avon, Melksham and Old Redcliffians.
Despite having one of the smallest squads, the team played some outstanding free running rugby with the backs scoring some wonderful tries, this was made possible by the gigantic effort the forwards where putting in to win as much ball as possible.
Although they just missed out on a trip to Twickers on Premiership Finals day in May, the coaches were more than happy and impressed on the way the team played on the day, as they exceeded all expectations.
WELL DONE LADS |

Looks like N&B are the epitome of harmony once more. Amazing what a few spankings will do for a club's morale/silent majority.
And J Dog, you refer to when you were a 'successful side' - do enlighten me, when was this exactly? |

Response to coaches comments.. (if allowed!) May be long so by all means don't read it if easily bored...........
Firstly I don't think that anyone involved with the club wishes anything but the best for the current 1st xv, 2nd's 3rd's etc
Secondly the seemingly barbed comment about "old guard" training and playing is I think harsh. It needs to be understoood that the side referenced to are predominantly in their mid thirties if not older and lifestyles both at home and work mean that even were ageing bodies to permit it ,training and playing is not as easy as it was and the drive does indeed wane as life moves on. To cast a negative view upon these players, be they retired or playing elsewhere or whatever, I think is somewhat harsh as they have in the main spent years training and playing for this club and not always under the easiest of circumstances. We have seen a myriad of coaches come and go over the years, both good and bad, and that never stopped the players wanting to play. If the issue is one of spectators, supporters ( call them what you will ) hankering after a time now gone then that is not a fault of the "old guard". Having been a part of that I can assure that we did indeed train " before I was here" we would not have had a successful side otherwise.
Thirdly upon the comment that none have offered services to assist with training etc then firstly please don't forget that some do so with juniors on a Sunday however I for one assumed that a new coach would not want a player who's rugby is seemed as "bash em up" to be involved in coaching a new young generation however would (as am sure would many others) happily get involved if it is thought beneficial.
We're all singing from the same hymn sheet really but don't have a go at ex players for no real reason other than to pander to those whose knowledge and expectations are possibly limited and unrealistic.
Comments welcomed. E mail address should be visible. |

It,s too quiet here.
A Muslim was seated next to an Australian on a flight from
London to Melbourne Australia .
After the plane was airborne, drink orders were taken. The Aussie asked
for a rum and coke, which was brought and placed before him.
The flight attendant then asked the Muslim if he would like a drink.
He replied in disgust, "I'd rather be savagely raped by a dozen whores
than let liquor touch my lips." At which point the Aussie handed his
drink back to the attendant and said, "Me too. I didn't know we had a
choice."

To Matt and all at Nailsea & Backwell RFC. Many thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon when you entertained both Chew Valley 2s and Vets this Saturday. The vets game was great fun to play in, with the correct level of good rugby, farce and laughter that all Vets rugby games should contain. The score flattered us in what was a very tight game ( with its fair share of bizarre moments!) and we look forward to another competitive game later this year. The half time libation and full time jug of Courage Best was much appreciated.See you on the 18th April at Lobbingtons and thanks again for a great Saturday afternoon. Bung. |

Especially for Dommet, Jonesy, Shorney and the golf society.ct: The Afterlife
The Afterlife
A devoted married couple made a deal that whoever died first would try to come back and inform the other of the afterlife. Their biggest fear was that there was no afterlife.
After a long and happy life, the husband was the first to go, and after a while, true to his word, he made contact with his wife.
'Mary. Mary.'
'Is that you, Fred? '
'Yes, I've come back like we agreed.'
'Wonderful, please tell me what's it like?'
'Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex, I have breakfast, then off to the golf course, I have sex, I bathe in the sun, and then I have sex twice.
Then I have lunch, another romp around the golf course, then sex pretty much all afternoon.
After supper, off to the golf course again.
Then I have sex until late at night.
And guess what? The next day it starts again. '
'Oh, Fred you surely must be in heaven.'
'Not exactly, I'm a rabbit in Somerset .'

The Rugby Club has been asked to pass on details of BACKWELL COMMUNITY PLAN. Backwell Village Council want to hear your views on what changes you would like to see in Backwell, and also what changes you would not like to see. You don't have to be a resident to offer your opinion and all views are welcome. Your views will help the Council to develop a questionnaire that will be delivered to all Backwell residents around the middle of next year. The results of the questionnaire will be used to develop the community plan.
This plan will provide a picture of what Backwell is like and how its residents would like it to develop in the future. It will be used by local government and other authorities when formulating policies and planning services. Other villages that have been through this process have also found that the collation of local information and views has helped with the development of local clubs and societies.
You can help in this process by emailing your views to info@backwellvillage.org by 31 January. You can read more at the website www.backwellvillage.org Example comments received to date include :
-Introduction of speed humps
-Extension of recycling capabiity
-Upgrade of swimming pool changing facilities
If you would like to get involved in the project itself, simply send your contact details to info@backwellvillage.org and you will be contacted. |

An inbetween Christmas and New Year joke.
Well done the Overs for scraping it on Boxing Day.
Husband and wife are shopping in Tesco's when the man picks up a crate of Stella and sticks them into the trolley
'What do you think you're doing?' asks the wife
'They're on offer, only £10 for 24 cans', he says
'Put them back. We can't afford it,' says the wife and they carry on shopping...
A few aisles later the woman picks up a £20 jar of face cream and sticks it into the trolley.
'What do you think you're doing?' asks the man,
'It's my face cream. It makes me look beautiful,' she says.
The man replies... 'So does 24 cans of Stella and it's half the f *** ing price'

Jack woke up with a killer hangover after attending his firm's Christmas Party. He didn't even remember how he got home. It's 8.30. What day is it? Thursday. His wife must have gone to work.
As he struggled into consciousness through the fog of a pounding headache, his stomach plummeted as he wondered what the hell he did last night. He forced himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he saw was a
couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a little vase of sweet peas, freshly picked from the garden. He sat up. The bedroom was clean and tidy, - there was no trail of drunkenly abandoned clothes, fresh air was coming in through the window and all was serene.
He stumbled to the bathroom, also pristine, and, squinting gingerly into the mirror, saw that he had a black eye. This was not a good sign, but no memories were returning. As he concentrated hard on getting the world into focus, he saw a post-it note stuck on the corner of the mirror. It was written in red, with little hearts on it and a kiss from his wife.
'I'll ring your office and tell them you won't be in today. Breakfast is in the oven. Try to eat something and go back to bed for the morning. There's snooker on TV this afternoon. Take it easy today, hope your eye doesn't hurt too much. See you tonight.. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian. x '
He stumbled to the kitchen and sure enough, there was hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the newspaper. His teenage son was sitting at the table, eating. Jack, bracing himself, asked his son what happened the previous night.
'Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door. '
Confused, he asked his son, 'So, why is everything in such perfect order, aspirins by the bed, a nice note from Mum and breakfast waiting for me?'
His son replied, 'Oh THAT!... Mum dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your trousers off, you screamed, 'Leave me alone you slapper, I'm married!!'
Broken Coffee Table £250
Hot Breakfast £3.50
Two Aspirins 20p

Even if you can only help for an hour then that will be great and it doesnt matter if you are a junior or senior. Dont assume that somebody will do it as otherwise like on so many occasions it will be left to a few to look after our club that almost everybody uses because almost nobody can be bothered. See you there! Jeff |

There were four people - Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it.
Everybody was sure Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it but Nobody did.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody would not do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when actually Nobody asked Anybody |

Does anyone recognise this moustache????
Yes, I do. His name is Laurent D' Autieul and he used to leave in 44 Rue Michel Ferrand Courbevoie, North Paris. I went to school with his sister, Isabelle. Nice girl but very spotty...
He is currently serving 20 years at Fleurry Meregisse Prison for stealing some baguettes and some cheeses from the local boulangerie , a crime seen as major in France. The moustache is now long gone and he spend most of his days carving corks for the Champagne industry.
Hope this help |

**Fixtures this weekend**
1st XV - Having exited the EDF Junior Vase in Gloucester last month, we were to play Bristol Telephones in the Bristol Combination Vase tomorrow. However, due to other commitments, injuries etc, BT have conceded the tie and given us a walkover to the next round where we will be away to either Bristol Saracens or Southmead. The date to be agreed.
We are however away to Wiveliscombe in the Somerset Vase this Sunday (23rd) 2.00 pm KO (not 2.30 in case of extra time).
2nd XV - Gilly has been trying to arrange a home fixture all week but to no avail. Consequently our 2nds are away tomorrow at Thornbury with a 2.30 KO.
3rd XV - No fixture.
Colts - No fixture.
My apologies that there is no rugby at home again this weekend ladies and gentlemen. I do however hope that some of you will forsake the Xmas shopping this weekend and go away to watch our emerging talent.

Please please help this good cause!!!! Had this email from a colleague............
You may or may not be aware, I run a small charitable group made up of amateur musicians and music production engineers who have been working together for the last couple of years. Everyone gives their time, effort and considerable skills for nothing and all expenses are paid for by the membersof the group directly. We're raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation, a fantastic charity that grants wishes for dying children. Each wish costs the charity approximately £3000 and our target is to pay for at least one whole wish. To do this we write and record original music, involving kids as much as we can (many of our tracks have lyrics written by kids) and this latest one has kids singing in it, and then we sell it on our website. Normally we mainly rely on our website to promote the songs we do. But we've recorded a Xmas song and we think it's superb, we're even hoping to get it played on radio if we can. With ten different vocalists including two kids (aged 4 & 5), ten guitartracks, 5 bass tracks, xmas bells a plenty, timpani drums and a near full orchestra track at the end, this is by FAR the most complicated and involved track we've ever taken on and in the shortest time too. Throw in a hugedollop of humour and take a crack at how miserable Xmas can be and you'rebeginning to get the idea. This song is catchy, funny and you will besinging it in your heads for weeks. So, a simple request. Got a spare 99p kicking around? Let's face it that'sless than a litre of petrol costs, everyone can find 99p. We would love you to buy this track and help this amazing cause. A lot of hard work and effort has gone into it and we believe it's worth 99p of anyone's money and every penny of the proceeds goes straight to granting wishes for dying kids.
http://www.gcrpeople.com
Thanks in advance if you do buy this track, you're a wonderful person and are helping an amazing charity. |

Shocking News!
EVENING EXPRESS - Bristol
Seven-year-old boy was at the centre of a London courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.
After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.
After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to Yatton RFC whom the boy firmly believes are incapable of beating anyone

***** COLTS*******
As Chair of Playing, I felt I needed to write and express how delighted I am with the performance of our newly formed Colts side.
A disappointing defeat to Dings has been followed by superb wins over Cleve and Chew Valley. Sadly the last two fixtures were cancelled through circumstances outside of our control, but there are new and existing fixtures in place from now to the end of the season and these will be fulfilled.
It is also pleasing to see the large numbers of Colts attending training and benefitting from the same drills and rouitines that the 1sts and 2nds are. This has enabled a number of our younger players to seamlessly step up to senior rugby and in some cases make very satisfactory 1st team debuts.
My thanks to Mark, Wayne and a number of other dedicated helpers who are feeding new blood into our senior sides.
And finally thanks to those of you who have played for the Colts this season and made it a reality.
*****Regards*****

On behalf of the club I would like to thank all those who turned out at the weekend to help put on the firework display. Dear All
Helpers are still required for bonfire night, if you can spare a few hours on Saturday night and would like to help then you need to be at the club at 1730hrs (meet in the Backwell bar). We will also be finishing building the bonfire and carrying out other jobs on Friday and Saturday. So if you can help it would be appreciated, the more people we have helping the quicker it will get done (many hands make light work). Remember this event is for your benefit! |

**** Membership Fees *********
Gentlemen,
Firstly thanks to those of you who have parted with your hard earned cash and paid your annual membership fees. I will shortly be publishing on both here and the notice board, a list of those names.
I realise it's a pain to part with your cash and I am also fully aware of the current financial constraints caused by our worsening economy. But I also need to remind you that the club does not have a bottomless pit of cash and whilst the bar makes money, there are overheads that need to be met. Add to that, the cost of new kit; new training tops; more tape for strapping and the hire of transport for away games etc and it soon mounts up. Certainly if you have played for the 1sts or 2nds this season, you will have benefitted in some way from the investments the Club has made in the playing side.
If you have not yet paid your membership, then you can do so easily by seeing either myself or Adrian Knighton or just by paying over the bar.
It's not big or clever to avoid paying.
Be responsible and be fair.

So there's this man with a parrot. And his parrot swears like a sailor, I mean he's a pistol. He can swear for five minutes straight without repeating himself.
The trouble is that the guy who owns the parrot is a quiet, conservative type, and this bird's foul mouth is driving him crazy.
One day, it gets to be too much, so the guy grabs the bird by the throat, shakes him really hard, and yells, "QUIT IT!" But this just makes the bird mad and he swears more than ever.
Then the guy gets mad and says, "That's it. I'll get you." and locks the bird in a kitchen cabinet.
This really aggravates the bird and he claws and scratches, and when the guy finally lets him out, the bird cuts loose with a stream of invective that would make a veteran sailor blush.
At that point, the guy is so mad that he throws the bird into the freezer.
For the first few seconds, there is a terrible din. The bird kicks and claws and thrashes. Then it suddenly goes very quiet.
At first the guy just waits, but then he starts to think that the bird may be hurt. After a couple of minutes of silence, he's so worried that he opens up the freezer door.
The bird calmly climbs onto the man's outstretched arm and says, "Awfully sorry about the trouble I gave you. I'll do my best to improve my vocabulary from now on."
The man is astounded. He can't understand the transformation that has come over the parrot.
Then the parrot says, "By the way, what did the chicken do?" |

Hoops was the forwards coach for this team so it shows that if you don't listen to Hoops you can succeed!!!! only joking fat lad! (hoops if you read this, send me a contact number for you - scottgoodall@gmail.com)

A guy is sitting in the bar in departures at a busy airport.
A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him.
He decides because she's got a uniform on, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant.
So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for,
thereby impressing her greatly.
He leans across to her and says the Delta Airlines motto 'We love to fly and it shows'.
The woman looks at him blankly. He sits back and thinks up another line. He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto 'Winning the hearts of the world'.
Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face.
Undeterred, he tries again, this time by saying the Malaysian Airlines motto 'Going beyond expectations'.
The woman looks at him sternly and says 'What the f**k do you want?'
'Ah!' he says, sitting back with a smile on his face. 'Ryanair'.

For those of you who hope to make Senior League appearances this season, you will need to be registered with the league. Some of you will have already received your form from Hawksy or myself. If so then please complete it and return it straight away as you cannot play league or cup rugby otherwise. If you are unsure if you are registered or not, then phone me or talk to me before training.

*** PLAYERS MEETING*****
Gentlemen - there will be a meeting for all players (including Colts) next Thursday the 31st July at the Club. The meeting will be chaired and run by our esteemed coach Mr Hawkes and will take place upstairs in the bar as I understand he may wish to use some visual aids. Please be there for 6.30 if possible so the meeting can start at 6.45. This will enable you all to also have a full training session afterwards. Mark will be talking about the coming season; the trials; training and fitness; commitment; some up and coming social events and many more matters of interest. Anyone from 17 to 70 who plans to pull on a Ravens shirt this season, with the intent to play some serious rugby, should attend.
Regards Barts

Training has commenced on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm start. There has been a fantastic turn out from the colts and a variety of last season's first team.
We have some new players who look very good. It would be good to see the second team players that played so well having trained towards the end of last season.
Competition will be tough for places in the first and second team so please make the effort to come and join us.
We have a trial match (3 x 20min sessions) against Keynsham (a) on the 19/8/08 we then play a first and second team against Winscombe (a) on the 23/8/08. |

From the President
Well, we've done it again! Another cracking weekend at the Beer Festival. I would think all targets werre broken and it was the best weather to date. This is just a short note to thank all those on the committee for their hard work and effort and for all those volunteers who rallied round over the weekend to help make it a success. There are too many to name but without them it wouldn't happen.
Thanks again and once more NBRFC have come up trumps!
(nothing but praise from the public)
Well done

Well guys sorry but due to the recent poor financial climate the costing for the vets tour has risen sharply due to Airport taxes fuel, fee etc, etc

Dear AIC = Anonymity Is Cowardly.
Many thanks for your comment, If you believe that I as Chairman or the club in general lack ambition then please come along to the AGM and openly say so, alternatively if you feel you have more ambition for the club then please feel free to stand up and be counted and put youself forward as Chairman. Ambition will become eroded by constant moaning and bitching (something that some people at the club are very good at) but can be boosted by individuals who are prepared to join in with the hard work that so many people put in trying to ensure our club becomes the best it can.
I do not intend to become involved in a long debate on the website but felt that I couldn't let your comment go unanswered and look forward to seeing you at the AGM. |
| Ambition is Critical |
22 May 2008 13:10:34 |
Sounds like a tougher league next year. And to think the chairman said it would be a good thing not to get promoted last year!
Q. When is not getting promoted a good thing?
A. When you lack Ambition |

The 1st XV have 4 new opponents. Relegated in are both St Bernadettes and old rivals Gordano. While promoted in are Taunton 2's and Old Reds 2's. Next season will certainly not be easier than last !
Our opening fixture is home to Imperial on the 13th September and the last away to Broad Plain on 18th April. |

I would like to echo the coaches words in his match write up and give my conratulations to the players & staff for a very good season. I have not seen many games this season and unfortunately the ones I have seen were the losses, however I did see some excellent performances also, enough to make me think that we will manage teams like the Tauntons & Old Reds IIs next season. The difference between success & failure is very narrow, just the loss of one game this season and in that game probably just one tackle/penalty. Like the Ospreys we have missed an opportunity this year, but hey, onward & upward next season guys! |

Thank you for your kind words Ruby but your praise is not earned. Credit is due alone to Hoops and 17 players who motivated themselves to a superb win. We played some excellent open rugby; scored some great tries; retained our discipline and dogged it out when we needed too. Sadly we could have done better in the second half ....but as Pidge said 'Some people are never satisfied'.
I would also like to thank Jason Patch and Rob Lee who had limited game time and Tom Crossman who didn't get on. My apologies boys.
Final thanks to the old farts and other faithful supporters.

** HELP NEEDED **
This weekend 32 Canadian students and their 4 coaches complete their visit to Britain and finish their stay at our Cub, arriving on Friday and departing on Monday. They are visiting Cardiff for Saturday's double header and playing against our own 16/17/18's on Sunday.
Despite generous offers of help we are still looking for some volunteers to accomodate some really nice 154/16/17 year olds. If you can take in a couple or more then please let us know. We are also looking for camp beds, sleeping bags and bedding to help out.
Visits from the Canadians are now established over many years. Experience tells us that these are always great kids who are warm friendly and great guests.
If you can help, then please contact either Norman, or your age group coach or the club direct.
All numbers are on the site.
Please let's show some good West Country hospitality. |

Rats
A tourist walked into a Brighton curio/antique shop. After looking around for a while, he noticed a very life-like bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but it was so striking that he decided to buy it anyway.
He took it to the owner and said: 'How much is this bronze rat?' The owner replied: 'It's £12 for the rat, and £100 for the story.' The tourist gave the owner his £12 and said: 'I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story.'
As he walked off down the street, he noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the sewers and begun following him. This was a little disconcerting, so he started to walk a little faster, but within a couple of blocks the swarm of rats had grown to hundreds, and they were all squealing
and screeching in a very menacing way.
He increased his speed & ran on towards the beach, and as he ran, he Looked behind him and saw the rats now numbered in their MILLIONS, and they were
running faster & faster. By now very concerned, he ran to down the pier and threw the Bronze Rat far out into the water.
Amazingly, the millions of real rats jumped into the water after it and were all drowned.
The man walked back to relate all this to the shop owner, who said: 'Ah, you've come back for the story then?'
'No,' said the tourist, 'I came back to see if you've got a bronze Muslim Fundamentalist Cleric, a couple of illegal immigrants, a poof, a Chelsea supporter and anything French!'

Four people in the carriage of a train - an Englishman, a pretty young blonde girl, an ugly old woman and a Frenchman.
It all goes dark when the train goes through a tunnel.
In the dark there's the sound of an almighty slap, and when the train emerges from the tunnel the Frenchman is rubbing his face, and there's a huge red mark on his cheek.
The old lady thinks 'I bet that Frenchman fondled the blonde in the dark and she slapped him'
The pretty young blonde thinks ' I bet the Frenchman tried to fondle me in the dark, got the old lady by mistake, and she hit him'.
The Frenchman thinks 'I bet that Englishman fondled the blonde in the dark, but the blonde thought it was me and hit me'
The Englishman thinks 'I hope there's another tunnel coming up soon so I can slap that French tw*t again'

A big thank you to everyone that helped and participated at the club on Saturday. The food at the VP's lunch was once again top notch. Well done to Nick Williams for his lifetine award. Well deserved. Great to see the 2nds pull off another win. Their 2nd half performance was an outstanding team effort and at long last my son, Scott, got his 1st try for the seniors. Post match festivities were kicked off by Mark and Glenn and this led on to a fantastic 'rugby' evening bolstered by the Petherton boys and some N&B players. A very spirited evening, so lets have more. |

Good luck to all our 3 teams in their games tomorrow.
A special mention to the first team squad - everyone knows how big a game tomorrow is but I also know that everyone that pulls on that N+B shirt and takes the field will go out there to give their best for the club. As long as the whole squad play to their potential and give it 100% then irrespective of the result nobody can ask for any more. So I would urge as many people as possible to get to the club and support our team in a positive way, moaning about every mistake is easy and negative, cheering them on is much more usefull and motivational to the players.
Come on the Ravens and the Ravens supporters! |

SENIOR TRAINING - TUESDAY NIGHT
There will be Senior Training as usual this week on Tuesday evening at 7.00pm.
It is vital that we get as many players (1sts, 2nds, 3rds and 17's) as possible to give Mark the numbers necessary to make training meaningful.
There is a 2nd Team league fixture away at Sulians and Phil will be trying to get the Quinn Stars out as well.
Commitment is not only on the pitch on a match day, but on the training paddock as well. |

Thanks guys for another fantastic effort on saturday. We played them off the park for 60 mins but only had a return of 5 points. My fault on some concerns but we all know that with a couple of extra strings to our bow we won't suffer like that again. We do seem sometimes to become a bit of a one trick pony but with the ability we are fielding that was another example of a game that we threw away. So this week for the first time this season on thursday we will have enought 2nd team players to have a proper session. If you think you want to play for the Gladiators whether young or old everyone is welcome. I want to finnish the season as we started and that means i need us to have that edge that we are lacking, If you are interested and are unable to make it please phone me on 07809720343 and I'm more than willing to discuss my and hopefully our dream for Nailsea and Backwell. Lets turn it into a reality and rid ourselvees of this poor run. I love the club and if you do I need to see it NOW! Stand and be counted and we will stand together and prove to everyone that this really is a golden generation and N & B have massively under achived for far to long. |

Love - a wildly misunderstood although highly desirable malfunction of the heart which weakens the brain, causes eyes to sparkle, cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise and the lips to pucker. |

*** STILL LOOKING FOR THAT IDEAL VALENTINE'S GIFT***
Well look no further. Give your wife or girlfriend a real quality experience. A candle lit bath in perfumed oils; a phone call from a close friend; that romantic DVD; a nice box of chocolates. She'll love it.
And she'll love it all even more if she can do it on her own for a few hours while you are down the Club training !!! |
