20 Sep 2008 - Nailsea & Backwell's 2nds

Chew Valley II's 39-21 N & B II's On another very warm September saturday N & B looked like they had only turned up physically and not mentally with half of the team dreaming about a cool pint and not there heads on the game. Chew who were also unable to feild a front row had selected a lot younger fitter and more mobile team used there advantage to full effect by scoring 2 very quick try's inside the first 10 minutes. Despite Nailsea then finally waking up there forwards really struggled to find any sort of energy and they seemed second best in almost every department. Despite the youthfull 3/4 line trying to take the fight back to chew a horrid late tackle which left the influencial Pete Hamblin hobling off. This spured Nailsea forward and Chris Quinn from the scrum scurried round to score and Ashley Townsend to convert. Despite Nailsea finally making a fight of things they were unable to press home the numerical advantge. With the teams restored back to parity Chew scored again with another telling overlap Nailsea then lost one to the bin and right on the whistle Chew created another telling oppertunity for them to finnish. Nailsea started the second half alot brighter and finally started to try and dominate the breakdown but just as they threatened to break back Chew stole a ball to crash over. the gladiators with Matt Lacey pushing hard in the center took a quick penalty with matt crashing over from 15 meters. Despite Chew pressure no futhur score was added and once the again Chew lost another to the bin. Nailsea scored again with Andy Kingston scoring from a superb lineout catch and pass. The intensity increased again and some very week forward tackling allowed Chew to run the ball back through the heart of the Nailsea side and score again. Despite some superb 3/4 line defence Nailsea lost another to the bin and Chew punished them again with another overlap. Scott Davie who was outstandind in both defence and attack really did not deserve to be on the lossing side and once again special mention to Chris Quinn who's energy and running put to shame most of Nailsea's forwards. Hopefully a week to reflect some training and a home match to Keynsham will help most of those players focus better otherwise the Gladiators will be in for a very long and hard slog this season.
