Avon II's 22-0 Nailsea & Backwell's II's
Well another disappointing away game from the gladiators with once again a slow start and some poor defensive cover proving very costly. Nailsea having already started the game with an unprecidented amount of changes due to injuries sustained during the week and a large amount of star performers being unavailable really tried to take the game to a large and very confident Avon team. Some superb defensive covering was soon broken down with three very quick soft try's in sucesstion. Nailsea once again struggled to find any intensity until the game was all but over but finally after 20 minutes started to play some bright expansive rugby that was only let down at the last minute due to some poor handling errors.
Despite being 17-0 down at half time Avon really struggled to venture out of their own half with Jason Patch excelling with some superb running and some excellent support from Neil Hatterall. Try as Nailsea did always at the last minute the final decistion wasn't allowing them to capitalise on any great headway made anywhere on the park. With Avon's only attack of the half the best try of the game followed with their speedy winger finally touching down in the corner. Nailsea did deserve a score but at the end fell short. Special mention to Jaime Sullivan who ran his socks off and despite some heavy pressure always managed to get the ball away and Chris Andrews who tireless running and superb scrummaging was a good reminder of why in recent weeks he had been a regular member of the first team squad.
