Nailsea & Backwell Colts 33 Cleeve Colts 17

The colts went to Cleeve in the league on a very hot afternoon and played some hot rugby !  Leading by example Skipper Pete Hamlin was prominent in everything that happened until he had to retire with a head injury.  The feature of the game was the combination of Hamlin and Scrum Half Jamie Sullivan who at 16 if he works hard will be a first team player this season.  Both gave everything and set real standards for the rest of the team.  Followed closely by Chris Quinn another just 17 years old .

His game management from outside half was excellent as was his kicking out of hand.

An early injury to James Tobin in the centre receiving a nasty wound to the head which required stitches meant that Nailsea knew early on that they were going to have to work hard here.  The scrummage was solid and the rucking tremendous.  Someone was heard to say “ if only the first team rucked like this”  Rich Hill, moving from fullback came into the centre initially and was swapped later to try new player Lee Lee.  Lee was excellent having spent the first half in the back row and scoring a terrific try he looked very comfortable in the centre.  The attitude and kicking of Ross Pearce who appears to be able to kick it over from anywhere with his goalkeeper style kicks was a pleasure to see.  A solid forward performance was the platform. Greig Want working for the team all afternoon should get a special mention. Tremendous team performance.
