Keynsham 2nds 7 Nailsea & Backwell 1st XV 26

A different team again today however the commitment and determination shown were outstanding. A positive change overall to the attitudes compared to last week and some very, very, good passages of play on occasions which produced tries.

Between those, a battle and a ground out determined display which was not pretty at times but the team are learning that pretty isn’t always possible !

A few adjudicators decisions were questionable !

It also required some very solid dogged defence this week against what are a strong side, well organised.

A number Seven from the home team that spent most of his time trying to wear a Nailsea Shirt.   A few errant hands and feet !  All led to not only a quite frustrating time watching but a very frustrating time playing.  The discipline on occasions left a lot to be desired from both sides however some positive early decisions would of helped a great deal.  Anyway move on.

Tom Crossman played in the centre and his place in the back row went to Greg Appleby.  Both performed admirably.  Appleby being involved in most of the good things and showing what a class act he could be and Crossman on occasions turning over ball superbly and looking very strong going forward.  The N&B pack were scrummaging very well and mention should be made of James Staley’s graft in the second row.  The combinations in the side generally went well.  The front row looked very solid.  Overall there was a good forward platform. There is still a need for the decision makers in the side to manage the game and team in a better way.  That will come with experience however we should nearly be there and on occasions we are not. That has to be better.

Pete Hamlin came into the team and had a longer spell on the paddock than last week.  He showed he has much to offer. Again a colt with a bright future.

Overall it was a real good hard fought victory.  A different, tenacious Nailsea display.

Tries came when the ball was moved well and players interlinked in loose play.  The beneficiaries being Appleby x 2, Lowis, Crossman.  Dowling and Stephens adding the extras.
