Walcott III's 27-10 N & B II's
On an awfull weather day the gods looked once again to seriously be testing Nailsea's sense of humour. Nailsea started alot brighter and were very keen to put behind them the prevoius weeks very poor results and within 5 minutes were 10 points up. A superb interception by James Tobin and a fabulous conversion and long distance penalty from Ross Pearce. dispite this great start the good work was soon undone by some very poor tackling and a sense of complacency and some poor mistakes. Nailsea struggled to win any ball against the huge Walcott pack and slowly Walcott worked there way up the pitch to cross Nailsea lines four times in 25 minutes. At half time the score was 22-10 to Walcott. Nailsea once again came out firing and some fantastic defencsive work saw Nailsea cross Walcotts line four times for each one to be denyed. Walcott continued to struggle even to get out of their own half and with now every area of Nailsea's play working from their scrums to line outs Nailsea started to rush and they just couldn't find that clear killer touch to score. With time ticking on Walcott capitalised on another loose pass to race the length of the pitch to finally touch down in the corner right on the stroke of full time. Nailsea can count themselves very unlucky that the only time Walcott crossed into Nailsea's 22 they scored and at last after a few weeks poor results can take great heart in a fantastic second half performance that deserved so much more than the score suggested. Nailsea's man of the match was Lee Stacey for his 100 percent all tackling and running display. With special mention to Dave Stokes for a fantastic high intensity second row performance and Ross Pearce who's thundering running through the center was always causing problems and to Scuba Steve for a bone crunching tackle to help set the pace of a excellent all round second half performance. Nailsea can take great heart from finally a good display although there is still more hard work to come with Clevedon next in the league in just two weeks. |
