17 Nov 2007 - Chew Valley Vets 45 - Nailsea & Backwell 3rds 15
Nailsea were like deer caught in headlights for the first half this match. Chew (fielding just the one side this Saturday...hmmm....) outpaced the Nailsea backs and took advantage of indecision under the high-ball, to run in six first-half tries.
Matt Lacey showed spunk at full-back and number eight Freddie Le Ouedec made some bullocking runs but this was in vain, with ball being turned over and Nailsea also failing to secure their own line-out.
A handful of team changes at half-time seem to revitalise Nailsea, who 'won' this half by three tries to one. The first came after sustained pressure on the Chew try-line including several penalties ten metres out. Freddie Le Ouedec finally touched down for an unconverted try. The Frenchman had a big hand in he second try, breaking away at the half way-line and slickly setting Andre Harvey free to dash in under the posts.
The final try was all down to Harvey, who made what you'd have to admit was a fairy poor clearance kick from deep in his own 22 metre area. It failed to find touch , but Chew failed to gather it and Harvey was there to pick up the loose ball and race away to the far posts, evading a couple of despeate tackles for a fine solo try. I wont mention that he fluffed converting his own try. Ooops, I just have !
